North West

Tuscany

Developed by Carma, Tuscany is known for community living at its best.  It is a distinct community in the Northwest quadrant of Calgary, with mountain views, access to the Rockies and still only a short drive from downtown. It offers superb amenities including The Tuscany Club, a private, recreational facility exclusively for Tuscany residents. Close by is the YMCA, a huge regional shopping at Crowfoot Centre, a pathway system incorporating regional parks, tot lots, and the city's bike path system. Residents are within close proximity to the University, The Calgary Foothills General Hospital, SAIT and McMahon Stadium with easy access to Mount Royal College.

Arbour Lake

Arbour Lake is a distinct community in the Northwest quadrant of Calgary, with mountain views, weekend access to the Rockies and still only a short drive from downtown. In the heart of the community is a 10 acre, 20 foot deep, lake, that gets it's water directly from the City of Calgary's water supply and is stocked three times a year with Rainbow Trout. Fishing, boating and swimming in the summer, ice fishing and skating in the winter, are only a few of the activities available exclusively to the resident's of Arbour Lake and their guests.

Arbour Lake offers a quality of living unmatched by any in northwest. It accommodates approximately 10,000 to 11,000 people and 3,800 dwelling units.

Citadel

Located in the upper northwest quadrant of Calgary, Citadel is a predominantly single-family residential community developed by Apex and Melcore. Citadel is a well planned, family orientated community with a wide and varying price range that accommodates and appeals to most. Prices ranging from $250,000 to $575,000, Citadel attracts many different buyers. The estate area of Morningside is located on the east side of Sarcee Trail and is bordered on the east and north by a natural ravine and the Hamptons Golf course. There is a good mix of single family homes and condominiums.

Citadel has approximately 2,400 houses and 600 condominiums. It offers easy access to the Rocky Mountains, Crowfoot Shopping Centre, YMCA, Superstore, Home Depot, Costco and the Calgary public library. The existing boundaries include Country Hills Boulevard to the south and Sarcee Trail to the east; the area will be bounded on the north and west by the future Stoney Trail Expressway that forms the first phase of the Calgary ring road. Views of downtown and the Rocky Mountains are enjoyed by many. The ultimate population for this new community is approximately 10,000 people.

Edgemont

Starting in 1978, set amid beautiful rolling hills and lush ravines in the city's northwest, Edgemont offers the outstanding amenities of a carefully-planned, well-established community. Edgemont is located in the northwest sector of the city, north of the community of Dalhousie and bounded by John Laurie Boulevard to the south, Sarcee Trail to the west, Country Hills Boulevard to the north and Shaganappi Trail to the east. Much of Edgemont is a northwest extension of Nose Hill, as evidenced by the steep escarpments at the southeast end of the community. The elevation of Edgemont provides for views of the city and the mountains in the distance.

Edgemont has both public and separate schools in the community, as well as a variety of recreational facilities, including skating, tennis, & walking paths. It is one of the largest neighbourhoods in the city of Calgary, and is comprised of predominantly single family homes, with a mix of low-rise condos and townhouses. Edgemont houses range in price from $350,000 all the way to a couple of million dollars, while Edgemont condos start at about $250,000.

Hawkwood

Hawkwood, named after its original land owners - John and Joseph Hawkwood – is located on the edge of the built-up area of northwest Calgary. It is bounded by Sarcee Trail to the east, John Laurie Boulevard to the south, Nose Hill Drive to the west and the Country Hills Boulevard to the north. These major transportation arteries provide good linkages to other parts of the city. The general landform character is that of a slightly rolling upland plateau which provides for some views of the Rocky Mountains and the city. Hawkwood was established in 1981 and the predominant land use is single family residential.

Royal Oak

Royal Oak and Royal Oak Estates are planned communities in NW Calgary, immediately east of Rocky Ridge Road. Royal Oak offers the tranquility of country living just minutes from Calgary, and residents enjoy unsurpassed views of both the mountains and the valley below.

Construction in Royal Oak began in the mid-1990's, and today offers a mix of single family homes as well as condos & townhouses. Most of the homes in the area were built by Avi, Cedarglen, Jayman, Mapeland, Stepper Homes & Sterling.  Royal Oak houses start at about $350,000, and range up to $2,000,000. Prices for a Royal Oak condo or townhouse start at just under $300,000.


Scenic Acres

Scenic Acres is located in the northwest sector of the city south of Crowchild Trail, west of Nose Hill Drive N.W., east of Stoney Trail and approximately 14 kilometres northwest of the city centre. The area was annexed in several stages, beginning in the early 1960s. The gently sloping topography provides for interesting views in a southwesterly direction towards the mountains.

Development in Scenic Acres has just recently finished with the predominant land use being residential, mostly single family detached housing with 5 medium to high priced condominium complexes including a +55 neighbourhood.

Very close by, there is newer YMCA, a huge regional shopping at Crowfoot Centre, a pathway system incorporating regional parks, tot lots, and the city's bike path system. Residents are within close proximity to the University, The Calgary Foothills General Hospital, SAIT and McMahon Stadium with easy access to Mount Royal College.

The Hamptons

Developed by Tirion Properties starting in 1990, The Hamptons is located on the northern edge of Calgary, directly north of the community of Edgemont.  The topography is a slightly rolling upland plateau. The community is developing as a single family residential community with the added feature of an 18 - hole golf course, surrounded by homes and a natural ravine, along the northern edge.

The Hamptons School opened September 02, 1999. It is the first school in Alberta to be built by a community developer. The project is a unique partnership involving Alberta Education, the Calgary Board of Education and Tirion Properties.

Crescent Heights

Crescent Heights is one of the oldest communities in the city of Calgary, rich in history, with some homes dating to the early 1900's. Located on an escarpment just north of the Bow River, a number of Crescent Heights homes offer perhaps what are some of the most stunning views of downtown Calgary. Crescent Heights is bisected by Centre Street North, which runs north-south through the community and offers quick access into the downtown area. Technically half of Crescent Heights is in NW Calgary, and half in NE, but the community is considered a "NW Community".

SF homes are primarily detached, with many of the lots zoned R2. Prices for Crescent Heights homes start at around $300,000 and range upwards of $2,300,000. Crescent Heights condos include a mix of both low & high rise apartment style units, as well as townhouses, with prices starting at just under $200,000.

Rocky Ridge

Rocky Ridge is a residential neighbourhood in the north-west quadrant of Calgary.  It is located at the western edge of the city, and is bounded to the north by Country Hills Boulevard, to the east by Rocky Ridge Road, to the south by Crowchild Trail, and to the west by Twelve Mile Coulee Road.  The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1989 and Rocky Ridge was established in 1998.

Ranchlands

Ranchlands is a residential neighbourhood in the north-west quadrant of the city.  It is bounded to the north by John Laurie Boulevard, to the east by Sarcee Trail, to the south by Crowchild Trail, and to the west by Nose Hill Drive.  The area was established in 1977 and was named for the ranching traditions of the Calgary area. Country Hills Boulevard gives fast access to the city's airport, while the newly opened Stoney Trail gives fast access to the mountains.

Dalhousie

This community lies west of Shaganappi Trail, north of Crowchild and east of Sarcee Trail.  Dalhousie has a gently sloping landscape and was built in the 1970s, with a mix of single-family homes, townhomes and some apartment buildings.

Varsity

The northwest community of Varsity is located on the hills overlooking the Bow River Valley.  It was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and has mostly single-family housing. In Varsity Acres, along the winding Varsity Drive and in the area immediately west of Market Mall are clusters of low-rise apartments. Varsity Estates is the area west of 53rd Street and is built around the Silver Springs Golf & Country Club. The community has numerous parks that run through it and connect to the parkland along the Bow River. Brentwood LRT station is close by. The area is prized for its unobstructed views toward the Rockies and to Canada Olympic Park across the river valley.

Hidden Valley

Established in 1990, Hidden Valley is located close to the northern edge of the city, bound by Stoney Trail to the north, Beddington Trail to the east, Country Hills Boulevard to the south and Shaganappi Trail to the west.

Evanston

Evanston is Qualico's newest residential community. Construction commenced in the fall of 2001 and the first show homes opened in the Spring 2003.  Evanston is bounded to the west by Symons Valley Road and to the south by Beddington Trail. To the north it is bordered by the municipal district of Rocky View. 
13600 sq. ft of space has been dedicated to the construction of Evanston Towne Centre which will consist of two shopping centres with grocery and retail outlets aimed to serve a community of 65,000 people.  Construction is expected to start in 2009.

Kincora

Located in the Northwest of Calgary, Kincora is Apex's newest community. The name and design of the development derives from the story of Brian Boru, Ireland's legendary High King. Therefore, Kincora has a Celtic theme including the Kincora tower, stone entry wall, lantern street lights, and many more features.
Kincora is a beautiful area with 120 acres of park and Environmental Reserve, and an extensively landscaped Storm Water pond with play equipment and gazebo. Multiple peaceful walkways wind around the community.  It is bordered by Simmons Valley Road to the east and Country Hills Boulevard to the south.

Sherwood

High among the foothills above Symons Valley overlooking The Hamptons Golf Course, and the Nose Hill park, Sherwood boasts a well planned northwest community developed by Genesis Land Development Corporation.  The theme here is English countryside.  Houses have been clustered thoughtfully adjacent to open space, schools, shopping, parks, playgrounds and walkways to give homeowners a complete village atmosphere.

Valley Ridge

This north western community of Calgary is located at the west edge of the city, south of the Bow River and north of the Trans-Canada Highway. The Valley Ridge golf course is located in the northern part of the community.

Panorama

Established in 1997, Panorama is a residential neighbourhood in the north-west quadrant of Calgary.   It is a new community, located at the northern edge of the city, north of Country Hills Boulevard.
